Happy Halloween! (And, More Twilight Pumpkins!)

happy halloween

This year I’ve become all about the Twilight pumpkins.  I thought I was done a week ago, but just the other day I came across two more patterns I just HAD to do.  Unfortunately I was only able to get one done for this year, but there’s always next year!

Here is the pumpkin I did just this afternoon.  Pattern from http://www.pumpkinwizard.com/

Alice Cullen

This is the one I did last week.  All four patterns are on the same pumpkin and I’m planning to display it on a turntable.  I need a brighter battery-operated light for it, so I’m not sure if it will go out tonight or wait until next year.  The pattern for Twilight came from http://www.stoneykins.com/ and the other three I created myself.

Here’s a (poor quality) video of it on my turntable.  You can see how it needs a brighter light to really show the patterns.

To see more of my Twilight pumpkins, see the Novel Novice Twilight Halloween Guide!

Happy Halloween!

30 Days of New Moon – Meet the Volturi!

30DoNM 01

Not only does New Moon introduce us to the wolf pack, we also get to meet the Volturi vampires.  The three leaders of the Volturi — Aro, Caius, and Marcus — are mentioned briefly in Twilight (the book, but not the movie).  In New Moon, we get to meet them, as well as some of the other members of the Volturi guard, first hand.

* * *

Michael Sheen as Aro

Michael Sheen as Aro

Although the three leaders of the Volturi have equal status, Aro sometimes appears as the leader.  He considers himself a friend of Carlisle’s, which becomes an advantage to the Cullens during their run-ins with the Volturi.  Aro has the ability to read every thought a person has ever known simply by touching them.  This strong power, however, does not prevent him from desiring both Edward and Alice as members of his guard.  When he discovers Bella’s resistance to his power, he is intrigued, suspecting she will have a powerful ability as an immortal.

Jamie Campbell Bower as Caius

Jamie Campbell Bower as Caius

The second leader of the Volturi, Caius, does not have patience for Aro’s mind games.  He is eager to destroy Bella for her knowledge of vampires, and even regrets not destroying Edward in the first place.  He views the Cullens as weak.  Caius does not have a special talent, at least as far as the Cullens are aware.

Christopher Heyerdahl as Marcus

Christopher Heyerdahl as Marcus

Marcus, the third leader of the Volturi, appears bored and uninterested with his existence, due to the loss of his mate, centuries ago.  He has the ability to sense relationships and their strength.  He is bound to the Volturi by the power of another guard member, Chelsea, not of his own free will.  The strong bond between Edward and Bella seems to awaken him for the first time since his mate’s death.

Dakota Fanning as Jane

Dakota Fanning as Jane

Jane is among the most feared vampire in the Volturi guard.  She has the ability to inflict debilitating pain with her mind.  Jane’s physical age is unknown, but she was most likely changed before puberty since Bella describes her as “slim and androgynous,” with a face that “was too pretty for a boy.”  Aro changed Jane despite her young age because she was being burned at the stake.  He suspected she’d have power as an immortal.

Cameron Bright as Alec

Cameron Bright as Alec

Alec, Jane’s twin brother, is another Volturi guard with an offensive power.  He can take away his enemy’s senses, leaving them unable to defend themselves.  Like Jane, Aro rescued him from being burned at the stake.

blank

Charlie Bewley as Demetri

Charlie Bewley as Demetri

Demetri is the Volturi’s tracker, a thousand times more skilled than James, according to Edward.  He can find anyone the Volturi has targeted by following the “tenor” of one’s mind.  Edward suspects Bella is immune to Demetri’s power.

blank

Daniel Cudmore as Felix

Daniel Cudmore as Felix

Felix rivals Emmett in size and strength, but not much is known about him otherwise.

blank

Noot Seear as Heidi

Noot Seear as Heidi

Heidi is so beautiful that Bella compares her to Rosalie.  She is the Volturi’s fisherman and bait, bringing unsuspecting humans to the Volturi lair for feeding.  She wears blue contacts to hide her red irises, causing her eyes to look violet.

blank

Justine Wachsberger as Gianna

Justine Wachsberger as Gianna

Gianna is a human living with the Volturi, acting as the receptionist.  She is fully aware of what the Volturi are and what they do.  Rather than be scared or disgusted by it, she hopes that one day, she’ll join the Volturi as a vampire herself.

Chris Weitz on “Eclipse” & Nikki Reed talks wolf pack

news flash cullens

* Chris Weitz explains to MTV why he doesn’t want to see any early footage from Eclipse:

“As a fan and a filmmaker, I’m excited to see finished stuff from ‘Eclipse’ rather than anything in progress,” Weitz said. “When you see works in progress, there’s always some guy standing in front of some big green curtain, and it’s all terribly disappointing. You really want to see the good stuff once it’s all finished.”

Read more here.

* Also at MTV, a new interview with Nikki Reed, who talks about the wolf pack in New Moon, among other things:

MTV: What’s your favorite scene in “New Moon”?

Reed: Anything that Taylor Lautner is in. Seriously, the kid is — he’s not a kid, he’s a young man — but he’s incredible. And I’m not saying that because he takes his shirt off in every scene. [Laughs.] Seriously, you forget that he’s half-naked in every scene, because he is so incredible. He makes this film amazing.

MTV: Tell us about your favorite new character to join the franchise, who wasn’t in the original film.

Reed: All of the wolves. They bring a very obvious warmth. To see people actually interacting and wrestling and touching each other and rolling around in the mud and being a bunch of boys? That was a nice addition. Because the vampires are all very … cold. It sounds super cliché, but there was a lot of interaction, a lot of human interaction [in “New Moon”]. It was nice.
