Big name directors considered for Breaking Dawn

Nope, nothing official yet. No official word from Summit Entertainment about Breaking Dawn. But Entertainment Weekly has word that Summit is looking at some big name directors:

Sources tell EW that the studio has reached out to at least three top-notch directors, including Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), Gus Van Sant (Milk), and Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) to gauge their interest in what is likely to be two movies. (Van Sant’s reps confirmed that he’s been approached, but Coppola and Condon’s people didn’t return phone calls by press time. Summit declined to comment.)

Yeah, big names.

You may remember that in a previous interview with MTV, Robert Pattinson himself threw around the name Gus Van Sant … who also happens to be a Portland, Ore. native. Leading to this follow-up article on

While Van Sant has often worked in Hollywood or other locations, it’s a known fact that he loves filming in Portland. He’s also previously worked with Portland casting director Lana Veenker, who worked extensively on the first Twilight film, which was filmed in Portland in early 2008.

Still, this is all just speculation. As the Lex points out, Summit probably won’t make anything official until after the marketing blitz for Eclipse.

For the comments: Who would you pick to direct Breaking Dawn?
