Eclipse sets more box office records & more Twi-News

* Yesterday we reported that Eclipse had earned a record $30 million+ take in its midnight opening. Now, Eclipse has set another box office record, for the highest-ever Wednesday opening:

LOS ANGELES (AP) — “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” has broken another box-office record.

The latest chapter in the vampire adventure took in $68.5 million in its first day, the best ever for a movie opening on a Wednesday.

“Eclipse” surpassed the previous Wednesday record of $62 million set last year by “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.” But the movie fell short of the all-time best opening day, a record held by its predecessor, last November’s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” which pulled in $72.7 million. “New Moon” opened on a Friday, typically a busier day at theaters than weekdays.

“Eclipse” opened in a record 4,416 theaters and expands to 4,468 cinemas Friday for the Fourth of July weekend, one of the biggest box-office weekends of the year.

* Also in today’s Twi-News … our friends at The Scorecard Review have now posted their interview with Robert Pattinson … including which other Twilight character he’d like to play.

* The Eclipse cast has been making the rounds on various TV programs to promote the film. The Twilight Examiner has a nice round-up of the latest appearances.

* And here’s a more bizarre Twi-headline for you … Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan dodged a question from a Senator regarding Team Edward vs. Team Jacob … really, Senators? Really? Don’t we have more important things to discuss when weighing the qualifications of a Supreme Court nominee?
