Current Challenge: We’re Not Vegetarians!

We’re just too excited about Breaking Dawn — with rehearsals going on, filming starting soon, the recent announcements about the casting of some of the nomad vampires — so let’s have another Breaking Dawn-inspired fan fiction challenge.

As you know, during Breaking Dawn, several nomad vampires that are friendly with the Cullens come to stand by them in a confrontation with the Volturi.  For this challenge, we want you to write a story about one of those vampires.  Your story can take place at any time before or after Breaking Dawn.   If you choose to write about a time that takes place during Breaking Dawn, it must be a scene that is not part of the book but could have been.  (In other words, don’t rewrite an existing scene from another point-of-view and don’t change the events in Breaking Dawn to fit your story.)

We don’t know a lot about these nomad vampires, so you have a lot of freedom.  You can add your own characters and get as creative as you want.  Your story just has to fit in the canon Twilight universe, meaning you must follow the rules of Stephenie Meyer’s vampires (sparkle in the sun, nomads have red eyes and feed on humans, etc.) and what little information you have about the vampire (special powers, coven, etc.).  If you choose to include other existing characters in the story (such as the Cullens, Quiluetes, etc.), you must stick to their canon history, personality, etc.  Otherwise, the sky is the limit!

This challenge will be a lot of fun we think.  We’re really looking forward to reading the entries!  Get creative!

Rules & Guidelines:

  • Stories must use proper grammar & spelling; any story with frequent grammatical & spelling errors will be automatically disqualified(I’ve let several entries slide in the past, but I’m going to start enforcing this rule now!  Please see the next guideline if you need help with grammar.)
  • Please use a beta. A beta is a person who helps you edit and improve your story.  One place to find a qualified beta is Project Team Beta.  Fill out their Story Application to get started. Be sure to give yourself ample time if you choose to use a beta. It can take up to a week to go through the beta process.  Include the contest deadline in your story application so the betas are aware.
  • Entries should be at least 1000 words long.
  • Please keep the content of your story to PG-13/Teen or lower rating.
  • You may submit as many stories as you like, but only one will be eligible to win judge’s choice.
  • You may submit a story you’ve written previously. It is not necessary to write a new story for this challenge.
  • If you submit a multi-chapter story, only the first chapter will be read and considered for judge’s choice.

How to Enter:

After you have written, edited, and perfected your story, upload it to fanfiction.net using the directions on the website.  Then send us an email at christie.novelnovice@gmail.com with the link to your story.

No submissions will be accepted after the deadline.  PLEASE do not wait until the last minute.  Sign up for your fanfiction.net account early if you don’t already have one — it’s OK to have an account without any stories right away.

If you have problems signing up for an account or submitting your story on fanfiction.net, please email me at christie.novelnovice@gmail.com so we can work it out.  Again, please don’t wait until the last minute.
