New Moon’s movie within a movie

news update movie theater

Michael Welch dishes to MTV about the three-way date in New Moon between Bella, Jacob and Mike Newton. He also talks about the fake movie that the trio will be viewing during the awwwkward scene:

“The film is called ‘Face Punch,’ ” revealed Welch, telling us about the tongue-in-cheek movie that Bella, Mike and Taylor will be seen watching on the big screen. “It’s an action film.”

When the cast of “New Moon” began planning out the pivotal date scene, they got a laugh out of some of the silly, fictional action-movie names that Weitz and his crew had assembled. But in the end, “Face Punch” was the winner.

“We started out with a few other comical names, but it turned out those were actual films so we couldn’t use those titles,” Welch laughed. “I forget the first few titles, but it was like ‘Crazy Explosion’ — and it turns out, there actually was a ‘Crazy Explosion.’ “

Portland actors talk “Twilight” & what’s next

The Oregonian newspaper has a feature today that includes Portland-area actors Solomon Trimble, Catherine Grimme and Ayanna Berkshire — all of whom appeared in Twilight, which was filmed in & around Portland last year.

When the movie version of “Twilight” was filming in Oregon in spring 2008, Stephenie Meyer’s books already had a passionate following, especially among teenage girls. But back then, the “Twilight” momentum was still building.

Since then, the saga of the romance between a human girl and a vampire guy has invaded pop culture. The books are everywhere, from best-seller lists to bookstore shelves. The next movie, “New Moon” — slated for release later this year — has generated nonstop buzz. And the whole unavoidable phenomenon, which has spawned a craze for all things vampire, shows no signs of slowing.

Though Oregon lost the filming of “New Moon” to Vancouver, B.C., “Twilight” is coming back to Portland.

On July 4, stars of “Twilight” and “New Moon” are coming to PGE Park for a game of Vampire Baseball to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oregon. The event is part of a wave of “Twilight” tourism (including the first “Twilight” convention, set for Aug. 28-30 in Portland). For more details, see http://fantrips.travel/twilightfantrips

Some stars from the movies will be on hand for Vampire Baseball, including Peter Facinelli, who plays Carlisle Cullen, the head of the “good” vampire clan; and Rachelle Lefevre and Edi Gathegi, who play menacing vamps Victoria and Laurent, respectively.

Also taking a turn in the spotlight at PGE Park are several Oregon actors who appeared in “Twilight.” We checked in with three of them for some on-set dish, as well as a glimpse of what life is like after you’ve been touched by “Twilight.”
